Why a Control Panel?

Every premise will be required to support RFID cards as the keys. Also, there will be a standard set or protocols for security system, and home automation. All of this will be managed through the control panel. Each premise will have a 16:9 7″ screen close to the entry door. There must be one owner which has complete power over the premise’s features, and functions. The owner is the only one that can delete an administrator. This is good for property owners that are renting out their buildings.

The administrator will be able to add or remove users. They will also be able to set restrictions such as time and location that has an RFID lock. They however can not remove the owner credentials. With this said, the control panel will interconnect with the digital ID system. This is important in the case that a user lost their ID card. The connection with the system will revoke the old card, and add the new card. This will reduce the work required by the administrator. If someone is concerned about losing their card, they can always add an embedded RFID chip in their hand, and that could be used as a secondary key. This will reduce the number of times that a person will have to pull out their ID card.

The control panel will also control home automation processes. For example, a single person can turn the lights on, and play the resident’s music from a playlist. Monday – Friday, a smart coffee maker can turn on at 5:30AM, but 7AM on the weekends. And since there is a unified set of protocols for security systems, all of the premise’s sensors will work no matter what security system is in place. The control panel can also define how light switches are to behave.

All of this will require an internet connection, but law requires any ISP to provide an affordable price for someone that just receives GBI. If there is no fiber available, then BPL (Broadband over Power Line) will be used, and will provide sufficient access for the premise to work properly.
